KEY TERMS

  1. Production - The process of making a media text
  2. Distribution - The process of getting a media text to the audience
  3. Distribution - This includes marketing/promotion and advertising of the product as well as the physical distribution or broadcasting of the text. 
  4. Simulcast - A simultaneous broadcast, that is broadcasted online at the same time as the radio.
  5. Podcast - like a catchup radio, allowing you to download it.
  6. Exchange - The process of an audience 'consuming' a media text, i.e. listening to a radio show, watching a TV programme etc.
  7. Convergence - When two things come together.
  8. Institutional Convergence - Is where two companies merge to create a conglomerate
  9. Media Conglomerates - Is a company who owns a large number of smaller companies. (subsidiaries)
Cross Media Conglomerates - Is where one type of company owns another type of company e.g. a magazine company owns a film company.
